Sausage, Apples & Onions
This recipe can also be made with these exciting barbecue sauce flavors:
- 1 cup KC Masterpiece® Sweet Honey and Molasses Barbecue Sauce
- 1 pound mild Italian or smoked sausage links
- 2 green apples, cored
- 1 each red onion & green bell pepper
- 2 tablespoons each apple jelly & spicy brown mustard
- 4 or 5 Skewers*
Cut sausage into 1-1/2 inch pieces, and apples, onion and pepper into 2-inch pieces. Thread sausage on 4 or 5 skewers*, leaving about 1/4-inch between each piece. Thread apples, onions and peppers alternately on another 4 or 5 skewers*. Combine, and heat together, barbecue sauce, jelly and mustard; set aside. Grill skewers over hot coals 12-15 minutes, turning over and basting frequently with barbecue sauce mixture. For best results, place sausages on hottest part of grill and apples/onions/peppers around the edges to cook indirectly.
*If using bamboo skewers, soak skewers in water 30 minutes before use.
